Why it matters – Bridging research and industry in renewables.

In June 2024, Professor Markus Mueller and Dr Joseph Burchell were named joint winners of the University of Edinburgh’s Research Impact Prize (Sustained Partnership). Their decade-long work with Mocean Energy transformed generator research into real-world results. CGEN’s modular generator was integrated into Mocean’s Blue X wave energy converter, completing a 13-month sea trial and demonstrating resilience and fault tolerance in harsh marine conditions. This award spotlighted the value of industry-academia collaboration and set the stage for CGEN’s path toward commercialisation and impact.
