Backing the Future of Generator Technology: CGEN Receives Investment from Old College Capital
University-backed and mission-driven: Building the next generation of renewable power systems.
We’re pleased to share that in November 2024, CGEN Engineering received investment from Old College Capital, the University of Edinburgh’s venture investment arm, via an Advanced Subscription Agreement (ASA). This marks our first equity funding and a major milestone as we continue scaling our modular generator technology.
Old College Capital backs high-potential spinouts emerging from the University’s research base. Their support not only provides financial runway, but also reinforces confidence in CGEN’s long-term commercial and technical direction. The decision to invest followed our successful delivery of a generator that ran for over 18 months at sea with Mocean Energy, our entry into the TechX Accelerator, and growing traction in wave, tidal, and wind markets.
This investment gives CGEN a strong platform as we prepare for a £3M Seed Round in 2025, and as we move toward field deployment in the wind sector. We’re proud to maintain close links with the University of Edinburgh — not just through our founding team, but through shared values of engineering excellence, sustainability, and innovation.
